Meal prepping has gained a lot of popularity, but for those of you who do it, are you ever finding yourself hating what you made when it actually comes time to eat it? It just doesn’t look appealing after you spent all that time prepping it, cooking it, storing it… This is something I was really struggling with and needed to nip in the bud! Here are some tips to avoid wasting your prepped meals:
1. Shop mindfully. Maybe you’ve ended up with a bunch of ingredients but feel like you’ve limited yourself with what you bought? Try to plan your meals before shopping to avoid having a bunch of stuff you don’t want to put together.
2. Prepare food that you actually WANT to eat. Prepping something super healthy and then dreading eating it and grabbing a burger out instead is the worst. Healthy doesn’t mean it can’t be tasty! Spice it up and make it taste like something you look forward to eating.
3. Keep it simple, but variety is key. Have different kinds of foods available. Giving yourself several options may take a little more time to prep, but it will ensure that you don’t get burned out on something.
4. Don’t make too much. Over prepping means that food can still end up being thrown out. Making the right portions for you and your family means you’ll not only have enough to eat, but won’t waste any either.
5. Don’t throw cash in the trash. When you throw food out, you’re basically throwing away money. It took money to make it after all! Wasting your hard earned money is not fun.
