You Are Your Habits: My Simple New Year’s Resolution List

You may have heard before that “you are your habits.” But what does this really mean? Habits are formed from choices. Making good choices in life will usually bring positive results, and the opposite for bad choices. Creating habits that make my life easier, minimize stress, and keep my body healthier is my main goal for 2019. With the new year just around the corner, I started thinking of good habits that I can incorporate into my daily routine and ultimately improve my life. See my list below!

Drink More Water
This may not seem like a big deal for some people, but for me it is so important! Drinking water is easy for me to do, however, I almost never drink enough. At the moment, I am going on 36 weeks pregnant and the amount of water I drink is crucial. But no matter who you are, you should be drinking an adequate amount of water just to stay healthy. My plan for this year is to keep a bottle of filtered water with me to sip on throughout the day to make this habit stick.

Be Thankful for What I Have
This goes hand in hand with the more simplistic lifestyle that my family strives for daily. People who are thankful for what they have not only refrain from wanting what others have, but also live more satisfied and happier lives. This goes for materialistic things, as well as relationships, talents, and anything else that I could be envious of someone else.

Keep My Brain Alive
Our brain needs to be fed just like our body does. The best way to keep the brain “alive” is to continue to learn new things. This doesn’t mean learning something difficult on a regular basis, but rather anything different or new to you. Learning new skills is something I want to continue to do for the rest of my life to keep my brain healthy.

Take a Break from the Screen
Too much screen time isn’t good for anyone. It’s not only bad for your eye health, but it keeps you disconnected from reality. I want to try to spend less time using my phone, my laptop, and watching tv. Thankfully, I don’t see this being a very difficult for me personally. This one may seem tough for some people, but if you’re able to start small and spend just a few minutes less each day, you may find it easier to do over time. I want to be more present in the moment instead of present on my electronic devices.

Meal Prep Healthy Foods
Not only do I want to have meals prepared ahead of time, but I want to make sure they are healthy ones. I’ve meal prepped before and always love the feeling of not having to think about making my meals each day, but for some reason I quickly get out of the habit of prepping meals. To make this easier on myself, I’m keeping a very minimal amount of packaged foods available in the kitchen and instead making most meals homemade. This tip makes it easier to go for the prepped meals because they are the only food available!

Speed Clean Daily
To keep a more tidy house, I’ve found that cleaning as I go is much easier than taking one whole day to clean everything. If I wait to clean the whole house in one day, I seem to skimp over certain areas…every. single. time. If you have the same issue, I’ve found that it’s better to do a quick clean-up of your whole house each day to keep this from happening. Look for a future post very soon about my daily cleaning routine and tips!

These are just a few of the many better habits I plan to create in 2019. What are some of your new year’s resolutions?
