Reflections of 2019 and Resolutions for 2020

It seems like the last few months of the year always fly by for us. September and October are full of birthdays and anniversaries, November is Thanksgiving, and December is Christmas. Before we know it, a new year is upon us and it’s time to start again.

This past February brought a new beginning for our family, the birth of our first child. So, naturally, the entire year flew by. It was full of blessings, sorrow, celebrations, loss, happiness, and lots of baby snuggles! 2019 was the best year of our lives so far, and I believe each year from here on out will be extra special. I can’t thank God enough for our little blessing we received this past year. She is truly the best gift I’ve ever received, aside from salvation. Motherhood teaches you a lot, even as early as that first positive pregnancy test. You become selfless, you worry more, and you even grow in your faith because you’ve never needed God more than this time in your life. Watching her grow is my favorite part. She is becoming more confident daily, and pretty soon she will walk without assistance, say more words, potty train, and the milestones continue…

2020 is already off to a great start! Our goals have been set and we’re now a week in and feeling confident in the growth we will experience this year in every aspect of our lives. We want to: keep Christ at the center of every day, make sure our baby has everything she needs to grow, mature in our faith, lose weight, rebuild our garden and landscape our yard, save money, declutter, and do better than last year. No pressure! Just a few goals… But the reality is if you aim for nothing, you’ll hit nothing.

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.”

Philippians 3:12-15
