If you’re like me, you would do (almost) anything to be sure you can nurse your baby. However, if you’re also like me, you have struggled with making enough milk at times. I found a pretty simple recipe that has really helped increase my supply when I’ve needed it. Here is the recipe:
3 cups of oats
2 tbsp milled flaxseed
3 tbsp Brewer’s yeast
1 cup peanut butter
2 tbsp honey
3 tbsp organic unrefined coconut oil
1 tbsp cinnamon (optional)
3 tbsp chocolate chips (optional)
2 tbsp chopped pecans (optional)
In a large bowl, mix the oats, flax, yeast, and cinnamon. Next add the peanut butter, honey, and oil. Lastly, fold in the chocolate chips and nuts. The consistency should be sticky. Roll into balls, and store in a container in the refrigerator. They will harden once chilled. Yields around 25 bites, depending on the size you make.
Disclaimer: This recipe is forgiving and there is NO baking involved! Feel free to add or take away any of the ingredients. Just remember that the oats, flax seed, brewer’s yeast, and coconut oil are the most beneficial ingredients for milk production.
Other things that will help with milk production are: adding an extra pumping session while baby sleeps, breast compressions while nursing/pumping, drinking a lot of water, walking for blood circulation, eating a well-rounded diet of fat, protein, and carbs, and doing things to minimize stress.
